LM78M05CDTX/NOPB three-pin positive voltage regulators use built-in current limit, thermal shutdown and safe operating area protection, which makes them almost immune to output overload damage. With sufficient heat dissipation, they can provide more than 0.5A of output current. Typical applications include local (on-card) regulators, which can eliminate the noise and performance degradation associated with single-point regulation.
